A couple friends of mine just got a job managing the community garden at Nativity Lutheran Church in Bend. They get to live on-site for free in a ‘yome’ in exchange for taking care of the garden and chickens and stuff. 

I’m no believer, and I’m not about to change that - but  I have to admit, this church is RAD, super progressive. The food they grow goes to the food bank, and they hold AA/NA and PFLAG meetings there, they have a LBGTQ library section, their pastor for 2 years is a lesbian. It’s 2 miles from my house, I could ride my bike! I get to help them build a new chicken coop in exchange for learning chicken-coop-building and composting skills. 

Oh and… their chickens are some of the healthiest most handsome chickens I have seen EVER. 

Stoked.
